  • The Rev. Kathleen Bean
  • Episcopal Priest
  • Rancher

In 1999 Kathleen and her family embarked on an adventure in sheep ranching and conservation when they established Lava Lake Ranch in the Pioneer Mountains. Twenty years later they are more committed than ever to promoting sustainable agriculture and the protection of wild things and places, especially here in Idaho.

Kathleen spent seven years as a fundraiser for The Nature Conservancy of California and served six years on the board of Marin Organic, which helped convert the majority of agricultural land in Marin County to organic production. Kathleen studied theology and ministry at the Franciscan School and Church Divinity School of the Pacific, both in Berkeley, California, and is the Associate Rector at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Sun Valley.

“Caring for the Earth is inextricably linked to my faith; I believe that the created world is sacred space, where people of all faiths or none at all find solace, strength and wisdom – the Earth has much to teach us! So the work of the Land Trust – to protect our open spaces and help make them available for people – resonates deeply for me.”
