BIG WOOD RIVER CLEAN UP

Sep 21, 2024, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Gather your family, friends and coworkers for a fun morning on the banks of the Big Wood River as we clean up trash and clear out debris!

To be a part of the Clean Up, click Register Now below, then on Saturday morning check in with our staff at one of three locations, Howard Preserve (Bellevue), Draper Wood River Preserve (Hailey), or Warm Springs Preserve (Ketchum). Walk along the river and pick up trash, then return it to the Wood River Land Trust staff before you leave!

Join us for the Howard Preserve Anniversary Picnic afterwards to celebrate the Howard Preserve and find out how much trash was collected.

A huge thank you to all of our generous donors!

About the Event

Join the Effort

Join us in our commitment to environmental stewardship at the Big Wood River Clean Up Event, happening Saturday, September 21, 2024. This community-driven initiative aims to preserve the health and beauty of the Big Wood River, a vital natural resource in the Wood River Valley. Participants of all ages are invited to roll up their sleeves, don their gloves, and join forces to remove litter and debris from the riverbanks and surrounding areas. By coming together for this important cause, we can make a tangible impact on the cleanliness and sustainability of our local waterways. Join us for a day of camaraderie, conservation, and making a positive difference in our community's natural heritage.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Big Wood River Clean Up is an annual event hosted by the Wood River Land Trust. This is an awesome way for the community to spend the morning with friends and family, giving back to the river that gives our community so much. We staff three locations - the Howard Preserve in Bellevue, the Draper Preserve in Hailey, and Warm Springs Preserve in Ketchum.

INCLUSIVITY

The Big Wood River Clean Up is designed to be largely inclusive to all members of our community, and Land Trust staff works hard to find projects that can be tackled by any volunteer - from highly energized high school students to easy access spots for kids and families.

GIVING BACK

We are so grateful to our community members who come out each year to the Clean Up. By giving of your time, energy and enthusiasm you are making an impact on the health of our river, its floodplain and tributaries.

During the 2023 event, over 740 pounds of trash was removed from the Big Wood River and its banks. Many volunteers came back to the party with a single bag of trash and exclaimed that “I didn’t find that much trash!” But, when combined with the other 75 volunteers working along the river that day, the impact was huge! It offers a great opportunity for community members to feel part of a larger movement of stewarding the river while also allowing younger participants to learn about river stewardship early in life.
