Contribute to a Project
At this time, there are only a couple projects listed on this page. Wood River Land Trust is currently negotiating on other projects and working behind the scenes to protect and restore important landscapes. As soon as we can go public with our next project, you will hear about it.
Hulen Meadows Floodplain Management Project
Wood River Land Trust (WRLT) is working with the City of Ketchum and the Bureau of Land Management to create a Recreation and Public Purpose (RPP) agreement that will allow the City of Ketchum and Wood River Land Trust to share management of 217 acres near Hulen Meadows. This partnership will allow (WRLT) to restore this section of the Big Wood River, improving the health of the floodplain and associated fish and wildlife habitat. It will also give the City of Ketchum a permanent lease on the land, allowing them to create a recreational asset for the community.
The best way to support this project at this time is to provide annual, unrestricted gifts. Staff is working with partners to move this project forward. Click here for more information on this project.

Water Below Magic Dam
Currently, the river channel below Magic Dam has only marginal flows for much of the year. During the spring/summer irrigation season, the Big Wood Canal Company releases water from the reservoir into thriver for diversion into the Richfield Canal system. Once the irrigation season ends, no water is released. With the exception of runoff and groundwater seepage, water recharge to the lower Big Wood River is non-existent for much of the year. The minimal flows during spring and fall spawning and hatching periods preclude successful reproduction in the river below the dam. The lack of recharge to the river outside of irrigation season also has negative impacts on survival of wild rainbow and brown trout populations, particularly during drought years.
